Every Christmas, we organise and perform at a charity gig for a cause close to our hearts. Previous charities have been COPS and Thames Valley Air Ambulance to name a few.

This year, our chosen charity is The Flint House Police Rehabilitation Centre, Goring where several of the band have experienced their excellent care and rehab after injury.

We would love you to come and join us on the night for our extra special brand of musical mayhem. The band will be putting on a fantastic couple of sets plus RNR Disco will be providing the background and warmup music. We have two raffles on the night including "Empty Santa's Sack" and our main raffle with prizes such as a custom made bass guitar donated by MGCS Basses.

Location of this year's extravaganza; Reading Rugby Club, Holme Park, Sonning. There is ample parking on site and for those that want to drink responsibly, you are able to park your car overnight.

We are being kindly sponsored by Police Mutual, Reading Rugby Club, Beechwood Mortgages, Martis Media, Thames Valley Police Group Insurance and No1 Copperpot

A ticket for the event is £10 and available to purchase or reserve by clicking the contact the band button just above or via Ents24. https://tickets.ents24.com/event/tickets/eventid/3739878

Limited Number may be available on the door subject to prior demand.

Advice when choosing a venue for your event or party

⚡ Choosing the Right Venue for Live Music with the Jailhouse Band

We love bringing the full Mr Grey’s Jailhouse Jukebox experience — big energy, big songs, and a dancefloor full of questionable but enthusiastic moves. To make sure your event with the Jailhouse Band absolutely smashes it, the venue you choose makes a huge difference.

Here are a couple of important things to check when booking your venue:

🔇 Sound Limiters

Some venues operate strict sound limiters that cut the power if the volume goes over a set level. These systems can shut down the band mid-song — lights off, PA dead, drummer confused, singer still belting it out acoustically like a pub opera. Sound limiters seriously impact sound quality, momentum, and overall vibe. If your venue has one, please let us know before booking so we can advise whether it’s workable (or politely run away).

🎚️ Forced Use of Venue Sound Systems

Occasionally, venues insist bands, including our Jailhouse Band, must use their in-house PA system. While this sounds convenient, many systems are underpowered, poorly maintained, or simply not suitable for a high-energy live band performance. We carry professional sound equipment that we know delivers consistent quality, punch, and clarity — and keeps your guests dancing rather than shouting “WHAT?” at each other all night.

🥁 Electronic Drum Kits Only

Some venues restrict acoustic drums and require electronic kits. These drastically change the feel and impact of a live band performance and don’t deliver the same energy your event deserves. Our show is built around real instruments, real dynamics, and real atmosphere — not polite background tapping.

✅ Our Recommendation

When choosing a venue, always ask:

✔️ Is there a sound limiter?

✔️ Are external PA systems allowed?

✔️ Are acoustic drums permitted?

If you’re unsure, we’re happy to advise and help you avoid any party-poopers before they crash your dancefloor. 🕺💃 Because your event with the Jailhouse Band deserves 100% Certified Bangers — not 60% volume and a flashing red warning light.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at mgjjband@gmail.com or rndisco@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

What do you need to know so I can get a no obligation quote?

The proposed date of your event, the proposed venue and location, some rough timings for when you want us to set up, play and what time the event finishes. Please also tell us about any access issues, whether there is a sound limiter/restrictor and any other restrictions that will potentially affect our service to you (see below)

Your quote will be based on our playing 2 x 45 - 60 minute sets with an auto-mixed playlist before, after and in-between, us arriving at 5pm to set up and the event finishing at midnight. We can provide a full disco instead of an auto-mix in the breaks, set up earlier or finish later if requires. This will incur extra costs.

The disco price is for a standard period of music starting at 7pm and finishing at midnight. We can start earlier or play later by prior negotiation and additional fee.

Please ask and we can work with you to tailor our services to your needs.

What do the band/disco need to play?

Please decide on your venue and confirm that with us. We have vast experience of lots of different venues and know what works and what doesn’’t. If in doubt, speak to us first so we can make sure your proposed venue is suitable.

We need access to be able to unload and load our amps, drums and instruments from our van. Please let us know when asking for a quote if your venue has stairs, no lifts, restricted parking etc.

We require a stable 240v power supply running from at least 2 different sockets. We have lots of kit that requires power!
Space - we require enough room for a drummer, a bass player and 2 guitarists plus their amps, microphones, mixer etc.

For the disco, we clearly need less space but the power requirements are the same

My venue has a sound limiter/other licensing restrictions about noise levels

We are discovering that, with more building being converted to “venues” for weddings and events, there are restrictive licensing regulations such as sound limiters, reduced volume after a certain time, forced to use the venue sound system.

These conditions affect the performance that we provide as we are a live ROCK AND POP BAND. Our advice is to find another more suitable venue as you are parting with your hard earned money to book us and we are desperate to give you the performance that you expect.

WE APOLOGISE BUT WE WILL NOT ACCEPT BOOKINGS AT VENUES WITH SOUND LIMITERS/RESTRICTORS OR DEMAND THAT WE USE THEIR SOUND SYSTEM DUE TO THE POTENTIAL EFFECTS ON THE SERVICE WE PROVIDE AND RISK OF DAMAGE TO OUR EQUIPMENT.
